As a popular weekend escape from Ho Chi Minh, Vung Tau enjoys a spectacular location on a peninsula, with ocean on three sides; the light and sea air make it a refreshing break from sultry Saigon. Oil is big business here, so the horizon is regularly dotted with tankers, and petro dollars dominate the economy, inflating prices considerably. The Robert Taylor Museum of Worldwide Arms

Located close to Front Beach, the Robert Taylor Worldwide Arms Museum houses more than 2,500 antique artifacts from around the world. The artifacts were collected by a British national named Robert Taylor. With a passion for antiques, he founded the museum and made it widely available to the public. Discovering the museum brings you back to the flourishing periods of the historical periods from the ancient to the modern.

Ho May Park

Address: 1A Tran Phu, Ward 1, Vung Tau

Opening Hours: 7:30 - 23:00

Ho May Park is a hilltop themed park that can be reached by cable cars. After a short ride up in one of their cable cars, you will be greeted by a guide who will drive you a few hundred meters further up the hill to the main area, where you would be then given a map so you can direct yourself towards viewpoints, amusement rides, flower gardens, etc. The beautty of Ho May Park stands out in Vung Tau. As early evening sets in, the colors of the setting sun are best enjoyed from this perch above Vung Tau.

Surfing & Stand-up-paddle

Address: Vung Tau Beach Club: 8 Thuy Van, Back Beach, Vung Tau

Vung Tau Beach Club is the only modern water sports school in Vung Tau City offering professional personnel experienced in surfing and stand-up-paddling. Besides all classic type of surfing, we actively develop the Stand-Up-Paddle (SUP). SUP is a combination of a large sized board and a paddle which you use to ride the board on waves or flat water. The paddle lets you control your line and direction in a different way than a classic surf board. As a result you can achieve huge turns with lots of splashes on waves and other impressive tricks, even 360° rotations and jumps!

Vung Tau Lighthouse

Address: Ward 2, Vung Tau

Perched at the top of the Nui Nho/Small Mountain (which is more like hill), the French-built Vung Tau Lighthouse (Ngon hai dang Vung Tau) is still operational and gives visitors a 360-degree vista of the city and sea. It was first built in 1862, after the French colonials invaded three South East provinces. The light house has a 1500w light bulb, its can radiate 35 sea miles (equivalent to 65km) far thanks to a giant prism system consisting of surrounding 3-side triangle glass panels, power-motored bulb.

White Palace

Address: 10 Tran Phu, Ward 1, Vung Tau

Originally a summer palace for the French conquerors, the White Palace has seen its fair share of history, from later Vietnamese leaders occupying the space to exiled Thai leaders being placed under house arrest. Outside, a long row of cannons emphasises the sweeping view of the bay and its strategically important placement.

Pig Hill (Đồi Con Heo)

The Pig Hill is a hidden gem in this beach city and one of the most attractive places that you should not ignore is The Pig Hill – a site located at Bai Sau. The way up is slightly tricky, but all your hard work will be paid off once you reach the top where the romantic view of Hon Ba Island makes this an ideal place to watch both sunrise and sunset.

Christ of Vung Tau

Address: Thuy Van, Ward 2, Vung Tau

Opening Hours: 7:30 - 11:30 and 13:30 - 16:00

The statue stands with outstretched arms perched on the hill overlooking the ocean. For the great view of the ocean, you need to climb up the statue, 100-plus stairs to the top where you can literally stand on Jesus’ shoulders. The dress code, however, is strict: your shoes must be removed, knees and shoulders covered, no tank tops are allowed or you will be turned away.

Monkey Pagoda

Address: Minh Dam Mountain, Phuoc Hai Town, Vung Tau

Located at the foot of Minh Dam mountain, Monkey Pagoda (also known as Truc Lam Chan Nguyen Monastery) was built in 1990 with quiet space for meditation blending in with the magnificient nature. At this place, the soul can reach serenity in addition to true peace, since it is a mesmerizing mix of the blue of the sea and the sky, with the green of the forest behind. A special feature of the pagoda is that there are usually hundreds of wild monkeys usually gathering around waiting for the monks to feed them.

David Pizzeria

This Italian eatery is an homage to the famous statue by Italian Renaissance sculptor, Michelangelo. The restaurant boasts authentic favourites such as home-made pastas, wood fired pizzas along with steaks and fresh seafood made from the freshest ingredients-including produce from the Italian-born chef’s own garden. Patio seating is very popular so booking ahead is recommended. If not available, head upstairs for the breeze. Popular with locals and visitors alike, Pizzeria David is the place in Vung Tau for a slice of Italian.

Banh Khot Co Ba Vung Tau

Address: 4 Hoang Hoa Tham, Ward 3, Vung Tau

Opening Hours: 8:00 - 22:00

Bánh khọt are crispy discs of rice flour batter and coconut milk (fried in individual molds until they’re crunchy on the outside but moist on the inside), colored with turmeric, topped with shrimp or squid, sprinkled with shrimp powder and spring onions, then served on a plate piled high with big green leaves (lettuce and mustard leaf), fresh herbs and sweet and spicy fish sauce.

Black Pearl Bar

Home to the best live music in Vung Tau, the Black Pearl is where the party just wont stop. Drinks are certainly more expensive than most other joints, however the rambunctious atmosphere makes it all worthwhile. After eight, the show begins and 80’s and 90’s rock covers belt out. Eventually a nightclub vibe takes over and the house band hands the reigns to a DJ.

Down Under Bar

One of the friendlier spots in town, Down Under is the place to go to watch live sports. Drinks are not overly pricey and there’s some good pub grub as well as a pool table. Most often frequented by older Aussies and Kiwis who’ve settled in the area, it’s a welcome environment and a nice place for a pint. The outside seating area is a great spot to sit when the heat of the day has faded away.

Cask Bar

Cask is one of the most popular spots in Vung Tau, run by an incredibly friendly couple who clearly take great pride in their pub. For years they’ve been serving up the best beer in town and are the only bar in the city that offers Saigon’s famed Pasteur Street IPA. A location on the main drag coupled with a relaxing second floor balcony make this one great spot to watch the sun melt away.

Running & hiking with Vung Tau Hash House Harriers

Address: Hon Ru Ri (Meet-up point): Tran Phu, Ward 1, Vung Tau

Vung Tau Hash House Harriers is an electric bunch of people of all ages, from many countries and backgrounds, that share a common enjoyment of socialising and healthy exercisise in the great outdoors. They welcome participants on every Sunday at 13:00 pm for a run between local (Vung Tau ) and away (out of town). "Local" runs include various trails on all four peaks of Big Mountain, and both peaks of Small Mountain, as well as the "city centre/lake" trail. "Away" runs cover much of the wider Ba Ria-Vung Tau province area, specifically the Fishing village/beach area north of Vung Tau City - as well as Go Gang, Long Son island, Ba Ria, Nui Dinh, Long Hai and the Minh Dam Base.
