LONG XUYEN

Long Xuyen is the provincial city and capital city of An Giang Province, in the Mekong Delta region of south-western Vietnam. It is a regional capital with an interesting history and a rather bland present-day reality. Like My Tho it was founded by the ancient Funanese, or Oc Eo, civilization. Until 1975 it was also the center of the Hoa Hao Buddhist sect, which, like the Caodai, had its own standing army to protect its interests against other sects and armies of the time.

Ton Duc Thang Museum

Address: 11 Ton Duc Thang, My Binh Ward, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province

Opening Hours: 7:00 - 17:00

This small patriotic museum is dedicated to Ton Duc Thang, Ho Chi Minh’s successor as president of Vietnam. Born in 1888 in Long Xuyen in the Mekong Delta region, he died in office in 1980. Photos and exhibits celebrate his role in the Vietnamese Revolution, enhanced by some fascinating displays on French colonial brutality.

Blue Sky Crocodile Land

Address: 44/1A Chan Hung Dao, My Thanh Ward, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province

Opening Hours: 7:00 - 17:00

For a close-up view of the reptile that once ruled the Mekong, head to this farm that’s home to thousands of crocodiles ranging in size from 10cm to 4m. The meat and skin of crocodiles are largely exported, though some Vietnamese drop in to buy fresh or frozen crocodile meat or to eat at the on-site restaurant.

Long Xuyen Floating Market

Located along the bank of Hau River in An Giang, you can find everything on Long Xuyen Floating Market such as fruits, vegetables, seafood, etc. The samples of goods are hanged on bamboo poles, hence buyers can see what products are sold at each boat. People in Long Xuyen floating market would also also contribute in creating unforgettable memories for visitors. While boating on the river, you will come across local children waving their hands to say hello or friendly smiles from hard-worrking, dedicated sellers.

Oc Eo Relics

Address: Ba The Mountain, Thoai Son District, An Giang Province

Oc Eo Relics is a well-known relic for being the crowded commercial port with boats and the Phu Nam kingdom location, formerly a strong kingdom of Southeast Asia. The archeologist evidences found in this area shows that the fruitful developments are expressed in the interlaced canals, developed arts and crafts including the jewellery, pottery, which are premises for the industry. There are also temples and tombs I this area with the combination of bricks and stones, which are the combination of the ancient civilization of region and local culture.

Tram Chim National Park

Address: DT 843, Tam Nong, Dong Thap

Spreading over an area of 7 villages and Tram Chim town in Tam Nong District, Tram Chim National Park is a miniature of the Dong Thap Muoi region, featuring a broad and diverse range of animals and plants in the Southern Vietnam. The total area of Tram Chim National Park is more than 7500 ha, housing as many as 200 types of birds which make up ¼ the bird population in Vietnam. The most typical and most well-known one is the Red-crown Crane, one of the last 15 crane pieces in the world.

Queen of Peace Cathedral

Being known as one of the largest cathedrals in the Mekong Delta, Long Xuyen Catholic Cathedral, or Queen of Peace Cathedral, was consecrated in 1974. The most distinguishing feature is the very 70s-style bell tower that is 55 meters (180 foot) tall. The temple follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the mother of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Long Xuyen which was created in 1960 by bull "Christi mandata" of Pope John XXIII.

Hong Phat Restaurant

The food at this cheap local joint is tasty, and though the interior is basic, the restaurant is air-conditioned and the menu is in Vietnamese, English, and Chinese, so ordering is relatively simple. Mekong Delta specialties include hotpot, caramelized fish, sweet-and-sour pork riblets as well as shaking beef and prawn paste on sugar cane sticks.

Vuon Trau

Specializing in Southern-style banh xeo (sizzling pancake), Vuong Trau offers a garden restaurant experience. It has no English menu, but the owner, the lovely Madam Ngoc Suong, does speak a little of the language. If you're keen to try the Mekong Delta specialty of field mouse, this is the place to do it - look for chuot on the menu; you can order it chien toi (fried with garlic), xao la cach (with greens), or la lot (with betel leaves).

Lang Toi

Lang Toi Restaurant offers seafood, other live specalities and self-brewed beers. Ultra-fresh fish and seafood are served grilled and steamed with a variety of sauces at this local restaurant.

Mekong River Kayaking Tour

Address: Countryside Adventures: 35/17/15C 4^th street, Phuoc Long Ward, Thu Duc Province, Ho Chi Minh City

You will get picked up at your location and then transfer to Mekong Countryside where you will get closer to local merchants' boats and enjoy plenty of seasonal tropical fruits. The tour will then carry on along the Mighty Mekong River with a stop at a local riverside restaurant for lunch, where you will also get to join a mini cooking class and learn how to make spring rolls and fish sauce. After lunch, you will continue paddling for another two hours to explore the island and the countryside before you get transferred back to your location.
